Programming guide

Plan a winter of coding practice that sticks

Build a realistic October to February coding practice plan using puzzles, rebuild projects, meetups and teaching, so your skills grow steadily through winter.

Estimated time: 30–45 minutes to planUpdated: 2 October 2026

Darker evenings are a good time to sharpen your programming, but random tutorials rarely add up. Use this guide to choose a few practice ideas and turn them into a weekly plan; have your calendar and a list of skills you want to improve ready.

Step by step

  1. Set one skill goal for the season

Pick a single outcome you can test by the end of February, such as "I can build and deploy a small web app on my own" or "I can solve medium-level puzzles in Python without looking things up". Write it at the top of a note. Every practice idea you choose should move you towards that one goal.
