Use this guide if you want to paper a single wall with patterned or plain wallpaper for the first time. You need wallpaper rolls from the same batch, paste suited to the paper type, a spirit level or plumb line, a pasting brush or roller, a smoothing brush, a sharp snap-off knife with spare blades, a long straight edge, a sponge and a stepladder.
Step by step
Choose paper and work out how many rolls
Measure the wall width and height, then check the pattern repeat printed on the roll label. Divide the wall width by the roll width to get the number of drops, round up, and add the pattern repeat to each drop length. Work out how many drops you get per roll, then buy at least one extra roll. Check every roll has the same batch number, as colours can vary slightly between batches.
