Make your phone work for you with simple automations

Set up a handful of phone routines, focus modes and smart reminders that cut interruptions and save time every day on iPhone or Android.

Estimated time: 30–45 minutesUpdated: 2 October 2026

Use this guide if your phone interrupts you too often or you keep forgetting small tasks. You need your phone and about half an hour; the features are built into recent iPhones (Focus and Shortcuts) and Android phones (Modes, Routines or Digital Wellbeing, depending on the make).

Step by step

  1. Find the automation tools on your phone

On iPhone, look in Settings for Focus and open the Shortcuts app, which has an Automation tab. On Android, search Settings for Modes, Routines, Bedtime mode or Digital Wellbeing, as names differ by manufacturer. Write down which tools you have before choosing ideas, so you only plan routines your phone can actually run.
