Use this guide when your car is due for its annual service or you are not sure which service it needs. You need your car's handbook or service book, the current mileage, and your registration number.

Step by step

  1. Find out which service your car needs

Check the handbook or service book for the manufacturer's schedule, which is usually based on time or mileage, whichever comes first. Garages commonly offer an interim service (basic checks and oil change), a full service (more comprehensive checks) and a manufacturer service matching the car maker's schedule. Many modern cars show a service reminder on the dashboard. Note what the schedule says is due, such as brake fluid, spark plugs or timing belt, as these can be expensive items.
