Get your overseas qualifications recognised in the UK

Work out whether you need a UK ENIC statement or professional registration, gather the right documents and use the result for jobs and study.

Estimated time: 40–60 minutesUpdated: 1 October 2026

Use this guide if you studied outside the UK and an employer, college, university or professional body asks how your qualifications compare with UK ones. Have your certificates, transcripts and any official translations to hand, even if they are only scans for now.

Step by step

  1. Find out exactly what is being asked for

Before paying for anything, ask the employer, college or body: 'Do you need a formal comparison of my qualification, such as a UK ENIC Statement of Comparability, or will you accept my original certificate and transcript?' Many employers and universities assess overseas qualifications themselves at no cost to you. If they name a specific document or regulator, write it down word for word.
